When a child is born, you can see the joy on the faces of family and friends. It is a time of jubilation and celebration. Phone calls are made, sometimes across the word to break the good news of the new entrant into the family with congratulatory messages pouring in from many quarters. There was however one special child whose birth was celebrated many years before the birth event. In Isaiah 9: 6, we read, ‘For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given…’.  This statement was made in the present tense, though it was a prophecy for an event meant to happen in the future. This was because as far as God was concerned, it was a done deal. Nothing was going to prevent it from happening. Although human eyes had not seen it, as far...

We live in uncertain times and this has been made more obvious with the way the Coronavirus pandemic has caused significant losses to nations, communities, families and individuals in terms of both human and material resources. Although a number of countries are easing back on the lockdowns imposed earlier in the year, it is evident that life as we know it will not be the same in the near future until a vaccine is found to immunise against the virus. With all of this going on, it is easy to feel worried and anxious. Many have been furloughed for several months and are not sure of getting their jobs back, some have actually been let go of their jobs at a time when most companies are not even recruiting. As Christians, we not immune to wha...

I recently found myself suffering from anxiety to the point where I almost became physically ill. It all stemmed from some little things that I was worrying about and before I knew it, other things began to crop up which ordinarily wouldn’t have been a big deal but considering my state of mind, it became a massive deal. I found myself gradually slipping deeper and deeper into a spiral but I did what I knew to do in such circumstances - I cried out to God and He rescued me. I began to take encouragement from His word and I realised I wasn’t the only one. Ask Elijah when he thought he was the only one left among the prophets. He became fearful when Jezebel threatened his life. This was a man who stood toe to toe against the prophets of Baal but the threat of one woman se...

I recently received some good news which made me so joyful and for days, I revelled in God's faithfulness for doing in my life something anyone would have felt was no longer feasible at my age. I shouldn't have been surprised really because it was not the first time that God had come through for me in ways that even I could not explain.A few days later, still basking in the euphoria of what God had done, I received an email which shattered my peace. As much as I tried, my emotions wouldn't let me. They were all over the place and before long, my physical health began to suffer. It was at this point that I decided I could not continue like this. I always thought that there was nothing I could not face with God by my side but all of a sudden, all kinds o...

Peace is an essential commodity. Everyone wants peace but many do not know how to attain it. Many do not even understand what peace is. We think that peace is the absence of violence and if only we can get the formula to stop all wars and conflicts, there will be peace in our world.

I watched President Obama of the United States speaking in Cairo just a few days after being elected into office, reaching out to the Arab world with persuasive and passionate words. His speech was applauded by a lot of Moslems watching and listening to his speech, describing it as a departure from the policies of the former Administration’s policies. Was Obama able to bring about peace in the Middle East? The emergence of Islamic State is proof  to the contrary.
