In various aspects of living, people are chosen for different functions or roles.  Interviews are conducted every day leading to a decision to choose the right candidate for the job.

In sports, coaches and technical teams have to decide which athletes would go through based on their perception of who they think would bring glory to the team.

The Grammy awards which took place this week was based on the nomination of artistes in different categories of music. Being nominated itself is a thing cherished but ultimately, only one person would emerge as the winner.

The consequence of making these choices is that some people will be ecstatic with joy while others would be disappointed, although they might hide it under the cloak of being magnanimous.

The reality of these choices is that the person who emerges the winner is not necessarily the best of the choices available.  The choices are dependent on the subjective perceptions of the people making those choices.

The most skillful people often do not get the jobs they apply for. In some cases, there may be some non-skill related reason why the interview panel may decide to choose someone less skillful.

A long time ago, someone made a choice.  A choice that was not exclusive as we so often see today, but a choice that was and still is, inclusive of you and everyone who believes.

“Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes.” (Ephesians 1:4, NLT)

Reading the above scripture, one cannot help but feel a sense of wonder. If I were to choose people who are holy and without fault, I wouldn’t choose me! Yet, this scripture is clear and unambiguous, God chose us to be holy and without fault in His eyes (Emphasis mine)

God made this choice even before He created us. He knew we were very likely to make bad choices, yet He loved us and chose us in Christ.  When God looks at us, He does not see our failures or our shortcomings, rather He sees the image of His Son shinning around and in us.

Again in Paul’s letter to the Ephesians, he declares, “Furthermore, because we are united with Christ, we have received an inheritance from God, for he chose us in advance, and he makes everything work out according to his plan.” (Ephesians 1:11)

What a joy and hope we have to know that we are chosen by God! We are part of His grand design. He is unfolding His plans layer by layer until the grand unveiling of the final event!

Remember, God chose you. It does not matter whether you just came back from an interview and in spite of being told that you performed creditably well, the job was given to another.

God chose you and your place in Him cannot be taken by another. He did not choose you based on your performance, your looks, whether you are black, white, male or female. He chose you, just because….He loves you!

God has made His choice and he chose you. Do you choose Him? His plan and purpose for us is that if we will choose Him just as He has chosen us, we can come into the fullness of what He has in store for us. It works both ways. Our choice is as important as the choice He has made.

If we decide not to choose Him, God will not impose His choice on us. We can accept Him and make a choice to enter into a personal relationship with Him and begin to enjoy a life-long time of fellowship with your Father-creator or choose to walk-away and turn away from Him.

Ultimately, a day is coming when we will all face the consequences of our choices. What will yours be?
