"Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations" Duet 7:9

Promises. People make them and break them every day. Some people sincerely make promises believing that they will be able to keep them, while others make empty promises knowing that they have no intention of keeping them.
I know what it means to experience the pain of broken promises. My growing up years were tough. Things were not just working out for me unlike my other contemporaries who seem to be having it easy. Once in a while, I came across people who offered hope and support only for me to realize later that they didn't mean what they promised. In some cases, I realized that some things just get in the way of promise maker, making it difficult or impossible for them to keep their word.

The effect this experience had on me was that I stopped believing in promises. Whenever anyone promised assistance or help, I just took it with a pinch of salt. When they failed, it didn't have much effect on my feelings but when they kept their word, a sense of deep appreciation and surprise overwhelmed me.

This attitude did not help matters when it came to my relationship with God. I took God's promises and claimed them but it felt like God wasn't keeping His promises. I kept wondering why other people testified to the faithfulness of God for the very things I was believing God for but out within my reach.

As I grew in my faith however, I began to realize a lot about God and His ability to keep all promises. I also realized that God's timing is different from ours and that although His promises may seem delayed in its fulfilment, He never fails to keep His promises.

Moses was speaking to the children of Israel, 'You know that the LORD your God is the only true God. So love him and obey his commands, and he will faithfully keep his agreement with you and your descendants for a thousand generations' Duet 7:9.

Our God is a faithful God. It doesn't matter how many people have broken their promises to you, be assured that whatever God promises concerning you, He is capable of doing it. People may have genuine reasons why they could not keep their promises but absolutely nothing can stop God from keeping His word.

'I will keep this solemn promise, and you will know that I am the LORD.'    (Ezekiel 16:62)
