“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing” (2 Tim 4:7-8)

A hero is defined as someone who is admired for doing something brave or achieving something great.

Society often look at people who achieve what is seen as admirable and outstanding as is the case of soldiers who are honoured for bravery and sacrifice in the defence of a country. There are others who are honoured for their bravery for standing against repressive regimes and advocating for the rights of the people.

There are some heroes however, whose actions impact other people quietly. T...

There are times when in the ordinary course of our business, extra ordinary events occur in our lives, which we cannot explain. When these events occur, we often wonder about the ‘why’ and the ‘how’ of these occurrences. We are so focused on the uniqueness of the event that we miss out on the message that God is passing across to us through these unusual events.

In most cases, when these events occur, they are witnessed by people who were not even looking for them. They happen at a time when these people are going about their normal business. We will be looking at examples of people who in the ordinary course of their lives, had an encounter with God

Moses had run away from Egypt after killing one of the Egyptians who was beating up on...

What is presumption and why is it dangerous? I looked up the word from several sources and two definitions came up;

An idea that is taken to be true on the basis of probability
Behaviour perceived as arrogant, disrespectful and transgressing the limits of what is permitted or appropriate.

One definition that leapt at me was the one by Merriam Webster dictionary and it quotes; “willingness to do something without the right of permission to do it”
God, having taken the children of Israel out of Egypt with a mighty hand, gave the people a specific instruction. They were to send spies to the land of Canaan to obtain intelligence on the land and its people. Moses gave the twelve men the following instructions;

“Go north throug...

One day, I called home and decided to play a prank on my children. They all know my voice and respond with about the same level of enthusiasm once they can identify that I am the one calling.

Of my children, the most outspoken is the middle one - my eldest daughter , who at this time was about 11 years old. She was the one I chose as my target and as I hoped, she was the one who answered the phone. The discussion went as follows;

Me: (with my voice modulated a little) Hello

Daughter: Hello, good afternoon. May I know who is speaking?

Me: My name is Peter, I am your mum's friend, may I speak with her please?

Daughter: (There was a pause as she tried to figure who this is) Errm, sorry, who did you say...

One of my favourite scriptures in the Bible is found in Genesis 26: 12-13. “Isaac planted crops in that land and the same year reaped a hundredfold, because the Lord blessed him. The man became rich, and his wealth continued to grow until he became very wealthy.”

My focus here is not about getting rich or how to make a lot of money. What jumps out to me in the above scripture is the progress from one position to another.

Let us examine the background to the event described in the above quoted scripture. There was famine in the land where Isaac lived. Like any reasonable man would do, he made plans to migrate somewhere else so that he and his family would not starve. This is not different from what we see today of millions of people migrating away from countries hit by war and...

So you started the year with great plans. You had them carefully written down with the action plans required to fulfill those plans. You committed those plans into God’s hands, believing in His word clearly stated; “Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass.” (Psalm 37:5)

On paper, everything looked good, what in the world could possibly go wrong?

Fast-forward a couple of weeks into the New Year; you have missed some deadlines you set for yourself. You planned to read at least one chapter of a book everyday but in the last couple of days, you haven’t even read a line, talk less of a chapter. Some planned to visit the gym at least 3 times a week but so far, they have not been able to meet that target.

Whatever the target you set for you...
