There a lot of heroes scattered all over the Bible. The feats done by these heroes range from  delivering their people from their enemies, winning wars, taking the gospel far and wide, martyred for the cause of the gospel and so on.

These days, the real  heroes often go unsung. Rather, they are maligned and criticized for doing what is right or ridiculed for taking a position that is in accordance with God’s clear instructions for man.

Peter and Hazel Bull are two of such modern day heroes.  Unlike many Christians of this generation who run businesses with standards separate and distinct  from their Christian beliefs, the Bulls who are hotel owners  in Bristol in England, established their business policy taking into consideration their Christian faith.

The Bulls were sued f...

People talk about being in "dark places" of discouragement, hopelessness, or impasse in their lives. It is not uncommon to read or hear the language of "dark places" for our children, our culture, or our world. In both ancient and modern literature, the metaphor of darkness for human error and its penalties is common.

Maybe that is why the person and nature of God are described as light. "God is light and in him there is no darkness at all" (1 John 1:5) One biblical writer even calls him "the Father of lights" and declares not only that there is no darkness in God or his actions but not even a "shadow" (James 1:17).

It should come as no surprise to anyone that the biblical narrative describes Go...

A couple of weeks ago, while going to work early in the morning, I saw a man walk past me. He was wearing a T-shirt and what was written on it caught my attention, in fact I almost did not believe what I read and had to read it a second time.  The words were, ‘I choose death’ and there was an image of a skull in the background.

I walked away wondering why someone would choose death. It could be a means to attract attention and it worked but I wondered if the person wearing the T-shirt actually understood the message he was passing across?

Choices are so important in the life of a person.  In fact, every day of our lives, we make choices. What defines us and indeed what makes us who we are, are the choices we make on a daily basis.

At the peak of his reign, King Davi...

One day,  Jerusalem  had unexpected visitors. These men were called the Wise men, considered to be knowledgeable in the art of astrology. We do not know much about them but their mission is made clear in Matthew 2:2, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star in the East and have come to worship him”.

They had obviously travelled a great distance, not just because they saw a unique star, but also because they had read the prophecies and had knowledge of what the star represented.  A king was about to be born, and they were committed to visiting this important royalty making his entrance as a baby.

As soon as the intention of the Magi was made known,  word  got to King Herod who was ruling in Jerusalem at that time.  Before we examine the reaction of...

Luke 2:14 – "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men."

Relief flooded Joseph's mind as he and Mary approached the usually quiet, but now bustling little town of Bethlehem. Clouds of dust swirled around them as their fellow travelers whipped their tired donkeys, urging them to go faster; and groups of weary and irritated visitors pushed and shoved their way to the hostels in order to find accommodation.

Joseph prodded his patient donkey to pick up her pace, all the while keeping his eye on Mary, slumped as far as she could on the neck of the donkey. He must...

As  I woke up today, gratitude flowed through me like a river flowing beyond its banks. I know without a shadow of doubt that God has been good to me. I did not need any inspiration for me to give thanks to God on this special day because as the psalmist prayed, God is teaching me to  number my days so that I can apply my heart to wisdom.

Four decades and a half ago, I was born here in London and I am sure like every other parent, my parents prayed and hoped that I would become a source of blessing to the family and that I would live long. No parent lives with the assurance that the children would outlive them, rather they pray and hope that God would in His mercy keep their children alive and well.

For me, that prayer was answered and is still being answered. There was a ti...
