Isaiah had a powerful commission to minister and proclaim the Lord's Word.  In Isaiah 6, he has a vision of the Lord seated on a temple throne accompanied by praising angels.  Isaiah felt unworthy and sinful because he knew his lips were unclean, that sin was weakening both him and the people.

One of the angels takes a live coal from the altar with tongs and touches his mouth, and then Isaiah is ready to accept the Lord's commission to speak to the people and awake them to repentance and healing.

Even later on, Isaiah declares in Isaiah 50:  "The Sovereign Lord has given me an instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary.  He wakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being taught. The Sovereign Lord has opened my ears, and I have not...

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”. (Jeremiah 29:11)

By now the excitement that heralded the start of  the year has waned. The hopes and aspirations of the new  year for many is beginning to look bleak and the future looks so uncertain.  It is back to the daily grind and the harsh reality of today.

For many, the year did not start on a good note – it was not the way they would have wished to start the year. In Somerset,  South West England, it has been a devastation caused by floods. Homes and businesses have been under water for weeks, causing people to evacuate their homes and sources of livelihood.

For many others, it has been the loss of a loved one or source o...

A SOFT answer turns away wrath, but grievous words stir up anger. [Prov 25:15]

As I was going through my bible last night, my eyes rested on this portion of scripture. I began to challenge myself on this verse, trying to think back on the encounters I had with people in the past, and whether my reaction was in line with the advice given by the wise king Solomon.

I must confess that it didn’t look to good as I analyzed each encounter where I was spoken to in a rough manner and I reacted in accordance with the above scripture verse.

The tongue is a very potent weapon which can be used positively or negatively. James tells us that with the tongue we bless the Lord and with it we curse men who are made in God’s likeness. [James 3:9].

In major cities,...

“If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple. 27And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple” ( Luke 14:26-27)

These words spoken by Jesus in the above scripture, if taken literally, may sound rather harsh and insensitive. This is why we need to understand the context with which this statement was made.

Jesus spoke these words at a time when many people were trooping after Him. They had seen Him work miracles and the ones who had not seen Him, had heard stories of what He had done and travelled great distances just to see Him do the great things they heard about.

That looks a lot like the rate of attend...

Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. - Philippians 3:13, 14 KJV

I believe God is calling us to press towards the high calling this year.

What have you been called to do?  Some people believe that other have a higher calling than others. That is far from the truth. Although we perform different roles through the gifts that God has given to us, there is only one calling!

No one calling is more important or higher than others. Your calling is as important as the Pastor’s calling. God knows you have what it takes to walk in that calling, that is why He called you!

As one year ends and another one begins, it is usual for people to review their lives in the out-going year and  make projections into the new year.

Some people make resolutions based on changes they want to make in the new year. These resolutions are often made to curtail habits or to achieve something significant.  What happens most times is that these resolutions are most often than not broken within the first few weeks into the new year.
