August 2010 was a time when I had far more questions than answers. I was 65—retirement age—but still had no definite retirement plans for the time in the future when I would no longer be capable of working. My husband Dennis and I were living in Canada, and the rest of our extended family—except for our two adult children—lived in the U.S.

Dennis was severely handicapped from a major stroke in November 2004 that robbed him of his ability to read, write, speak, and use his right hand. He walked slowly with a cane. It also affected his reasoning ability.

For nearly three ye...

Sometimes life is good to us. Some other times, it feels as if the world is caving in on us. This is the reality about the world that we live in.

When I look back into the last few years of my life, I can’t help but appreciate the fact that I couldn’t have gone through it all on my own. There have been times I felt like giving up and then somehow strength from within launches me forward again and what looked like a mountainous problem becomes surmountable.

It gives me great encouragement each time I remember the portion of scripture which says, ‘See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are every before me’ (Isaiah 49: 16, NIV) This is not just a promise but also an assurance that God has us in mind all the time.

It was the custom of the Jews to...

“Revenge, at first though sweet,

Bitter ere long back on itself recoils.” – John Milton

In 2003,  Chris Huhne a highly placed MP in the British parliament was caught over speeding while driving. Having received 9 penalty points previously on his driving license, this offence was very likely to earn him driving ban and seizure of his driving license. He decided to take the easy way out, he appealed to his wife to take responsibility for the offence and she agreed.

Seven years later, Chris Huhne decided to leave his wife of 25 years, Vicky Pryce and started another relationship with someone else.

This decision did not go down well with Vicky who decided to seek revenge by going to the newspapers and giving them the story of how her then husband had asked h...

On February 5, 2013, the British House of Commons gave a majority vote in support   of same sex marriage.

For Christians in the UK, who believe in the Biblical institution of marriage between a man and a woman, this was a sad event.  It is note worthy however, that some MPs stood up for what they believed and refused to vote in favour of the Bill.

Now that the bill has been passed through the House of Commons, next step is the House of Lords and the Prime Minister seems  positive that the Bill will receive overwhelming vote.

The gay movement is moving swiftly all over the West, putting pressure on governments to legalise same sex marriage and so far, everything is going according to the script. In Africa however, they have gained little or no success because of the...

Manti Te'o is the outstanding Notre Dame football player who was caught up in the touching tale of a girlfriend, her devastating illness, and her tragic death - on the same day his grandmother died. There had been notes and phone calls. The press took it to heart and made it public. It was also a hoax. Lennay Kekua and Manti Te'o had never met. She never existed. (Authorities are trying to determine if Te'o was victim or participant in the extended deception.)

It reminds me of a story by the skeptical and irreverent H.G. Wells about a clergyman. The good bishop was the kind of man who always said pious things to people. When troubled folks came, he found that a particularly helpful thing to say - if said in the right tone of voice - was, "Have you prayed about it?" Said gently, it alway...

"And the man waxed great, and went forward, and grew until he became very great" (Gen 26:13)

We all want God to bless us and indeed God Himself desires to bless us. However, the problem we have most times is that we do not understand God's perspective on blessing. We believe that 'if I could just have a million dollars in cash or if I could have a nice job, or make the right connections, I will know that God has blessed me'

The truth of the matter is that whenever we ask God to bless us, he answers our prayers! He actually blesses us much more than we could ever ask for.  The problem usually is that we do not know that we have been blessed and therefore do not know what to do with what we have.

The Bible provides us adequate information on how God blesses us...
