That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie,  we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us. -  Heb 6:18

What drives an individual to serve an unseen God with so much passion and zeal? Why would a man, even in the face of trials and adverse situations, remain calm and resolutely trusting in God when others are torn apart with grief and confusion?

The answer is simply this; we have a God for whom only one thing is impossible; and that is, to lie. When God speaks, you can be sure that every word is true.   Jesus came and made an affirmative statement, "I am the Way, The Truth and the Life… " John 14:6. There is nothing equivocal about that statement. It is real, it is...

How many times have you heard people seeking elective office use the words, ‘I humble offer myself for the position of ….’

Humility is widely and generally recognised as a virtue, so much so that people use it as a tool to get favourable responses from people. Once these ‘humble’ people get what they want, the humility goes out of the window and that is when you realize that there was nothing humble about them in the first instance.

What is humility by the way? The dictionary meaning of humility is, ‘the quality of being humble; modest opinion or estimate of one’s own importance, rank or status.

We see from this definition that a humble man is not necessarily a poor man or one with a quiet personality. In fact, it is easier to see whether a person...

A generation or so ago, our universe was thought by many scientists to be a closed system that had neither beginning nor end. The existence of the cosmos was regarded as a "brute fact" and needed nothing to produce it. The modern and well-nigh universally accepted theory of the big bang changed all that.

If the universe did have a beginning, it becomes not only reasonable but also unavoidable that we would ask what generated that beginning. Now, however, we have left physics (i.e., how nature works) for meta-physics (i.e., why nature exists at all).

This is the point at which a theist calls attention to a traditional and powerful argument for God's existence. If the material universe has not existe...

“Praise ye the Lord: for it is good to sing praise unto our God; for it is pleasant; and praise is comely.” (Ps 147:1)

God created us for a purpose. We did not just evolve as the proponents of evolution would have us believe. God is a God of purpose and everything He created was carefully thought out in His infinite wisdom.

Again and again, we are called to praise the Lord. This is not because God is lacking of praise – scripture tells us that billions of angels in the heavenlies continually praise the Lord day and night. However, it means that man can never be fulfilled until he enters the place of praise.

Why should we praise God? Some reasons are given in the psalm above why we should praise God.

First, praise is good: It is so difficult to see or hear anything good arou...

Gay vicar, Colin Coward aged 65, is set to enter into civil partnership with his 23 year-old Nigerian ‘boyfriend’, Bobby Egbele.

The vicar’s announcement has stunned his superiors in the church and thrown them into confusion because the couple intends to receive ‘blessing’ in church after tying the knot.

One would begin to wonder why Colin would be making such a decision at an age when people usually begin to realize that the greater part of their lives has gone past and theyare moving towards the twilight of their existence here on earth. Such realization often draws one closer to one’s creator because only God gives us assurance of life beyond this world.

On his reason to seek ‘blessing’ for the union, the vicar says, ‘My goal is for everyone within the church to...

I saw a news item on television over the weekend which set me thinking. From what I gathered, an HIV infected woman had caught the attention of the Nigerian president, probably in one of the HIV related events.

Anyway, it seemed that the woman needed financial assistance to start up a trade in order to sustain her family. She had skills in dress making but did not have needed equipment and facilities to start. She however continued to work hard on whatever she could do with her very limited resources.

Somehow, her fortune changed the day she had the opportunity to meet the president at the event. The meeting produced a promise from the President to assist her to achieve her dream. According to her, she felt grateful for the attention the President gave her but she...
