Once again, we are in that period called the Lenten season. It is globally recognised by Christians all over the world as a time of fasting and prayer and self examination. Observance of this period differs depending on church denomination. While the mainstream orthodox churches (Catholic, Anglican, Methodists) observe it strictly, others such as Evangelical and Pentecostal churches pay very little attention or encourage their members to fast during the period. The purpose of this writing is not about the whether to observe lent or not, rather it is about paying consistent and continuous attention to the tenets of the Christian faith, whether during or after the lenten season.I grew up in the Methodist church and as a child, I observed the difference i...

“Excuse me Teacher” said one of the men present. “What’s that guy’s story? His circumstances seems weird and strange! Could he have done something wrong or possibly suffering from the consequences of acts perpetuated by his parents?“The person who asked this question had to know because he had been discussing it with his mates and they could not agree on what could have put the subject matter of their discussion in the state that he was in. In other words, they wanted to know the man’s story. The Teacher’s response was not what they expected. First, he blew away the opposing arguments away with the response, “Neither this man’s nor his parents’ sinful actions caused this.” I can picture the guys looking at each other and wondering, “What is he ta...

One of the gifts I used to appreciate a lot is stationery. I loved collecting pens and even till this present moment, I have a collection of pens which I use at intervals to do various things like filing forms, signing checks or writing quick letters or notes. The emergence of computers have to a large extent impacted on the writing skills of many, especially children, who are being introduced to computers early in the lives. They grow up to type on the keyboard rather than hold a pen in their hands to write words. The implication of this is that many of these children grow up without the ability to write legibly.Over the ages, writing of words has been a very important and significant part of human existence. In the Holy scriptures, any time God wante...

A little over a year ago, a decision was made to migrate the Biblepraise website from the WordPress platform we have been using for years. The reason for this was that like any other general purpose platform, it is always difficult to make changes quickly when you feel the need to do so.There was so much I wanted to add to the current website to make it more engaging and interactive but this was not possible before now. Being a developer myself, it was only a matter of time before I made the decision to roll out my own web solution to drive both the website and the newsletter. To the glory of God, that plan has now become reality. For years, we have been sending the newsletters through Yahoogroups. This process has been plagued with many prob...

I was raised by very strict parents and most often than not, my brothers and I always felt apprehensive when the clock ticked towards their return from work. We would check and double-check that everything was in place and that we had removed every trace of things we had taken liberty to do while they were away. In spite of every preparation and thought, it usually took less than 5 minutes from the time of their arrival to reveal most of what happened in their absence.

As a parent, I have learnt certain traits in my children which helps me deduce if they have done something wrong and anticipating my response to their actions. For example, when I ask them if they have done something I told them not to do, I could tell by their expression, even before they open their mouths what the ans...

Peace is one of the most essential needs of man. It is true that the basic needs of man are often mentioned in terms of food, clothing and housing but without peace, these essential needs become difficult and almost impossible to attain.

Due to the importance of peace, immediately after the Second Word War, the United Nations was established and its main aim was the maintenance of international peace and security.

Since its establishment, there have been various armed conflicts in different parts of the world in which many have died. According the University of Michigan’s Correlates of War project, there were a total of 194 actual wars between 1945 and 2001 and this does not include over 3000 disputes which were not classified as actual wars. In spite of its efforts, it is obvious th...
