How long did it take for their fate to affect you? If you have a daughter or granddaughter, it likely took your breath away the first time you heard about it.

On April 14, more than 300 female students were kidnapped from their school in Chibok, Nigeria. A militant Islamist group known as Boko Haram - a Taliban-like, Al Qaeda-connected Sunni terrorist organization - has been intimidating Nigerian citizens since around the year 2000. It is said to have been responsible for something over 3,500 murders to date.

On the night of the kidnapping, 53 of the courageous and desperate young women jumped from trucks or fled into dense underbrush at times when their captors were distracted. Of those still in captivity, Boko Haram's leader has boasted that the girls' education...

One thing that intrigues me about the Bible is the fact that it not only shows the good and enviable side of great men of God, it also shows the ugly side of them that I am sure they would not have wanted the Bible to record.

Let us take a look at the life of David. He was a boy who loved the Lord with all of His heart. He was never seen by his family as a candidate for the kingship of Israel. This was so obvious when the prophet Samuel was sent to the home of Jesse to select the next king of Israel. When the sons of Jesse were summoned, no one bothered to call for David.

Our culture tends to view work as a curse. One should try to avoid it whenever possible. When it can't be avoided, one should do only what is agreed to by contract in the job description. After all, one works only because it is obligatory to making money; so rear your kids to think in terms of careers that are the quickest and surest ways to get rich. Money, after all, is the only thing that makes the "necessary evil" that is work slightly more palatable.

Not a single one of the very common ideas...

I was awake but my eyes were still closed. I could hear the footsteps of people hurrying off to work and the sound of distant traffic.
I had finished my secondary education a couple of years before then and would have loved to seek admission to the university like my other friends, some of whom were already in school. The reality of the situation told me that would not be a possibility for now. What I needed was a job. If I could save up for a few months, maybe I would have enough to seek admission into the university.

Introduction
Hope is an essential ingredient of living for human beings.  What is hope and why is it so important?

The dictionary defines hope in the context of a noun and a verb. As a noun, it is defined as, ‘a feeling of expectation and desire for a particular thing to happen’. As a verb, it is defined as, wanting something to happen’.

In general, hope is a feeling based on the probability that something may or may not happen. We feel a certain way in the expectation that somethi...

Have you ever been in love or seen people who are in love? I am not talking of the Hollywood kind of love which appears so intensely passionate one minute and the next intensely cold and hateful.

I am talking about that kind of love - undying, relentless and powerful, defying all forms of obstacles. I am talking about the love so committed and fiercely loyal. That is the kind of love I am talking about here, which unfortunately, is no longer common place in our society today.

Drawing from my own experience, I have found that the relationship between a man and a woman in love, passes through different stages. Each stage reveals the strength and/or weakness of the relationship.

The initial stage is the  discovery stage. This is the meeting point. This is wher...
