I recently received some good news which made me so joyful and for days, I revelled in God's faithfulness for doing in my life something anyone would have felt was no longer feasible at my age. I shouldn't have been surprised really because it was not the first time that God had come through for me in ways that even I could not explain.A few days later, still basking in the euphoria of what God had done, I received an email which shattered my peace. As much as I tried, my emotions wouldn't let me. They were all over the place and before long, my physical health began to suffer. It was at this point that I decided I could not continue like this. I always thought that there was nothing I could not face with God by my side but all of a sudden, all kinds o...

People love being followed. It is an affirmation that they have something that others desire. We live in a generation where social media following is a big deal. Politicians, musicians and other public figures do so much to boost the number of people who follow them. There are many who follow others so that they can be followed too.It has however been established that relationships based on social media is ephemeral and superficial at best. One important thing I have learnt about life is that what matters is not so much about who we follow but also why we follow them. In John 6, Jesus had just finished preaching to thousands of people who came from various towns. When it was evening, the disciples came to him, requesting that He send the people away so they can go...

It is a fact that at some point in our lives, we have someone that we have followed. As children, our main focus of attention was our parents or the people who cared for us. Wherever they went, we always wanted to follow. I remember when my children were toddlers, my wife and I always prayed that they would still be asleep by the time I was leaving home for work. Whenever they were awake however, it was always a Herculean task to get them to understand that they could not follow me to work and that I would be back. When Jesus started His ministry on earth, one of the first tasks He did was to appoint his disciples. It is interesting to note what He said to the brothers Simon and Andrew, "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men" (Mark 1:17) Going a...

It is always a pleasure when we visit those we love and cherish. We long to extend our stay with them as much as we can and it is always with reluctance that we eventually say our goodbyes. When it comes to our relationship with God, if you are like me, I am sure there are times when you wonder if God is present in your life. This often happens when we are faced with challenging situations and circumstances and we question where God is in all of this. The good news is that you are not alone. There were times when the Psalmist asked the same question. In Psalm 13: 1-2, the writer laments and wonders why God has forgotten him and allowing him to go through the sorrows and pain he was experiencing. In the next two verses however, he turned...

For me, every new year is a chance for me to reboot. As an IT professional, one of the things we often ask users to do if they are having problems with their computers or devices is to reboot. To reboot is to restart, to clear the old data and initialise new resources. Often, this is usually all it takes to fix the issue assuming that there are no other underlying causes. One year rolls away and another one rolls in, all within a second. As usual, the TV is usually focused on the fireworks display by various countries trying to out-do each other. People holding hands and hugging each other as the countdown completes. A new year has began!Every year has its own share of good and bad events – 2018 was not an exception. While others would say it was a goo...

As I pen down my thoughts on the topic of this writing, I naturally look to be the Bible for answers by asking myself the question, "What was Jesus' view on tolerance?" Answering this question will help us have a biblical perspective on how we relate with others, whether they are believers or non believers. In today's world, tolerance is a word that has become very prominent especially in the face of religious radicalism and terrorism that has continued to rage across different countries in the world. It has become common to hear adherents of a particular faith come out to condemn attacks done in the name of their religion and affirm that their religion is a religion of peace and tolerance. Whether those who were at the receiving end of these attacks believe so is anoth...
